ATCHISON, Kan. – Reaching the Heart of America Conference Tournament for the sixth consecutive season, the Baker women's soccer team came up just short in the Heart of America Conference Tournament Quarterfinals on Tuesday, falling to Benedictine, 1-0.
Baker took a total of 10 shots in the game, with four shots being on target. Lydia Brinker, Emma Schieber, Darcy Cato and Emeil Bennett each picked up a shot on goal, but the Benedictine keeper made all four saves and kept Baker scoreless.
Avery Young who was named to the Heart of America All-Conference second team this week played all 90 minutes in goal for the Wildcats made six saves for Baker and gave up just one goal in the first half.
The Wildcats were able to hold the Ravens scoreless for the first 22 minutes of the game, but shortly after, the Ravens broke the scoreless tie, netting the only goal of the game to take a 1-0 lead.
With Baker taking just three shots in the first half, the Wildcats turned up the offensive intensity in the second half, taking seven total shots, but could not tie the game as they fell to Benedictine, 1-0 in the Heart of America Conference Tournament Quarterfinals.
The Wildcats finish the season with a record of 5-11-2 overall and 3-6-2 in Heart of America play. Baker picked up a big 2-0 win in the final game of the regular season to clinch a spot in the conference tournament for the sixth straight season.
