Drovers Shutout Bruins to Remain Unbeaten
CHICKASHA, Okla. – Saturday evening, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (7-0-1, 0-0 SAC) emerged victorious in the battle of the unbeatens against Bellevue University (5-1-2, 0-0 GPAC). The Drovers used a pair of first half goals to cruise to a 2-0 victory in the tough non-conference battle. Despite the low score, USAO was in full control of the match and peppered shots towards the Bellevue net.
The showdown with the Bruins also concluded the non-conference portion of USAO's schedule and will begin conference-play in two weeks.
The Drovers wasted little time to claim the lead on Saturday, scoring in the 10th minute as Ashlee Davison scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Daniela Salinas. USAO would then add an insurance goal in the 27th minute as Ilse de Jong delivered a perfect free-kick that found its way past the keeper's outstretched arms.
As a team, USAO attempted 17 shots, with five being on goal, while Bellevue attempted just six shots, two of which were on target. The Drovers were whistled for six fouls, while the Bruins committed 17 infractions.
Ashlyn Lonberg was perfect between the pipes for USAO, stopping two shots to earn her third shutout of the season. With the win, Lonberg now owns an incredible career win-loss record to 15-1-1.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Drovers will begin conference-play on Saturday, September 28 as they host Nelson University. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM CT at McLaughlin Field.
