CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Mount Mercy Mustangs dominated the third quarter with an impressive 8-of-15 shooting performance, securing a 71-53 victory over the Park Pirates.
From the opening tip, the Mustangs took control of the game backed by a strong defensive effort that held Park to just 32.4 shooting percentage (22-of-68), despite the Pirates winning the rebounding battle 46-37. The Mustangs had a stellar performance from the field with a 46.3 shooting percentage (25-for-54) and from the line going 11-13, for an 84.6 shooting percentage.
Claudia VanZant led three other Mustangs in double figures, ending the game with 15 points on 7-8 shooting while also grabbing nine rebounds. Sadie Struchen added 12 points while going 4-9 from beyond the arch, and Isabel Wallschlaeger contributed 11 points, shooting 4-4 from the field. Sam Kiel went 4-9 on shooting, ending the game with 10 points.
Nadiyah Cooper ended the game with a team-high 15 points for the Pirates, shooting 6-15, with Ramyiah Logan chipping in ten points and two steals.
The Mustangs will be back on the court on November 23rd as they play host to MidAmerica Nazarene, starting with a noon tipoff.
