Men's Basketball Secures Historic Win on Opening Night

LIMA, OH - UNOH men's basketball opened the 2024-25 season at home for the first time since 2016 Tuesday night taking on Shawnee State in The Garage. The Racers rolled to their first win over the Bears since 2014, 103-95, earning the program's first ever home opening day victory.

UNOH fell behind out of the gate but fought back to take their first lead 24-23 with eight minutes to play in the first half. That lead was as close as the game would be the rest of the way with the Racers taking a 13-point lead into halftime and running out to their largest lead of night at 24 points five minutes into the second half. The Bears kept fighting and pulled within eight several times, but UNOH managed to fend off the comeback attempt each time to finish on top 103-95.

Ryan Archey finished with a game-high 26 points shooting 9-17 () from the field and 6-7 from the charity stripe with three rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Antonio King picked up a double-double in his Racer debut scoring 24 points with ten rebounds adding five assists and two blocks to his line. Caleb Chapmen adding 13 points, Jayden Priddy-Powell put up twelve, and Malachi Black earned eleven.

UNOH shot lights out hitting 57.1% as a team, the program's best under Westerlund and the highest since December 30, 2019 (58.2%). The Racers also knocked down 47% of the three-point attempts shooting 83% from the free throw line.

UNOH will head to the Lancer Tipoff Classic this weekend taking on host No. 8 Grace on Friday night at 7:00 PM and Bethel on Saturday at 12:00 PM.
