V-Hawks Soar Past Fighting Bees

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The No. 1 Seed Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team defeated No. 4 St. Ambrose (IA) (25-12, 25-19, 25-20) on Thursday evening in the CCAC conference tournament. The V-Hawks rise to 24-9 (CCAC 16-0) while the Fighting Bee's finish their season at 16-16 (CCAC 9-6).

Hailee Halverson's back to back kills would put the V-Hawks on the board, before she would serve up an ace putting VU up 7-2 early in the set. Viterbo would strive for a five point run with Mia Quist on the serve with an ace and a block by Martina McGrath and Izzy Jahr. Jahr carrying the momentum would find the sweet spot with two hard kills, and a McGrath block would end the set.

The V-Hawks beginning the set from behind quickly recovered with Kenidi McCabe on service and Maddie Connor setting up Mitchell, Halverson, and Sadie Treptow for a collective five points. Making a break for it Jahr and McGrath would lead a solid six point run. Though the Fighting Bees would make a comeback Treptow would claim the final points of set two, placing the V-Hawks up 2-0.

Connor would find Halverson for the kill to tie up the final set before SAU would claim the next four points. Needing to make a comeback Cailie Kowal would find Halverson for the first of two four point runs to reclaim the lead. With a one point lead Connor would find Treptow for three kills before two St. Ambrose errors that send the V-Hawks to the CCAC final.
Halverson led the V-Hawks with 9 kills, while Connor and Kowal supplied 14 assists each. McCabe took 21 digs, Trenyce Bonner and Mackenzie Grafton each supplied 12 kills.

The V-Hawks return to the court Saturday, November 14 as they host the CCAC Championship game.
