OLATHE, Kan. – Despite a strong third set, Avila volleyball lost its season-opener at MidAmerica Nazarene on Tuesday night, 3-0.
A strong debut performance from freshman Megan Davies, who led all players with 10 kills, kept Avila in the match. Davies' .152 hitting on the night was second only to senior Paige Huhman's .167.
MNU led the entire match and won in straight sets, 25-13, 25-15, 25-18.
With a roster built on newcomers and what head coach Marylyn Mozena refers to as growing, "a culture and foundation that we can keep building off of. With our freshmen and sophomore class, we have girls who are bought in to the rebuild of it."
The Eagles return to the court on Friday for the first of four games in Bellevue, Neb., for the Bellevue and GoSarpy.com tournaments. Action kicks off on 11:30 AM against College of Saint Mary on Friday morning. Follow along to Avila volleyball all season at AvilaAthletics.com and @Avila_Athletics.
