Bruce leads 4-set win over Alice Lloyd

Georgetown traveled to Rio Grande, OH for 2 final matches of the 2024 regular season. The first was against Alice Lloyd. The Tigers took Gareth Bruce's 6th double-double of the season and ran with it to a 4-set win.

The teams traded points for most of the opening set there were 15 ties in the set. After an Ana Darr kill to cut Alice Lloyd's lead to 18-17, the Eagles responded with 3 of the next 4 for a 21-18 lead. Georgetown responded first with a kill from Gareth Bruce. Next came blocks and consecutive plays from Matilde Oom and Ana Darr. Oom then buried a kill to give Georgetown another tie at 21-all. 2 more blocks came moments later to give Georgetown a 23-22 lead and an Alice Lloyd timeout. With the set tied at 23, Alice Lloyd committed back-to-back attack errors to give the Tigers the 25-23 set 1 win.

Early in the 2nd, the teams seem destined for another long, close set. Alice Lloyd broke free with 6 straight points to explode to a 12-5 lead. Georgetown stayed poised and countered with the next 4 points to get back within 3. A run of 3-0 shortly followed capped by a Faith Miller ace and Georgetown was within 2 at 15-13 as Alice Lloyd took a timeout. Georgetown stayed close but could never draw level or get ahead. The Tigers got as close as 1 at 24-23, but Alice Lloyd was able to close it out, 25-23, to level the match.

After committing 13 attack errors in the 2nd set, Georgetown refocused and took serious frustration out on the court in the 3rd. Alice Lloyd was on the wrong end of said anger as Georgetown exploded for 17 of the first 21 points in the set. The Tigers hit .353 with 14 kills and just 2 errors in the set. Alice Lloyd was never in the set as Georgetown rolled to a 25-13 win.

The Tigers went for a repeat in the 4th by racing out to an 8-3 edge. Alice Lloyd fought back and worked its way back within 1 of Georgetown at 12-11. The Tigers countered with 4 straight, bookended by Gareth Bruce kills for a 16-11 edge. Alice Lloyd got 2 back but got no closer the rest of the way. Georgetown slowly pulled away and got the final swing from Makena Walker for a 25-17 win to close out the 3-1 win.

Gareth Bruce finished the double-double with 18 kills and 11 digs. Makena Walker owned the right side with 10 kills. Ana Darr and Matilde Oom worked the middle with 8 total kills and 10 block assists. Oom also dished out 10 assists. She was one of 3 Tigers with 10+ assists as Faith Miller ended with 18 and Viannie Kazan finished with 16. Miller also tied Reese Speed for a team-high 15 digs.
