Spires Men's Tennis Defeats Friends, 5-2

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary Spires men's tennis team delivered a strong performance on Monday, defeating the Friends University Falcons 5-2 at home. The Spires showcased their resilience and skill, securing crucial wins in both doubles and singles matches.

The day began with doubles play, where the Spires took two out of three matches. Evan Maritz and Nils Dueppe secured a 6-3 victory at #1 doubles. At #3 doubles, Leyton Ross and Jack Contrucci also won convincingly, 6-3. Carlos Grimaldi and Nudem Koyuncu battled hard at #2 doubles but ultimately fell 6-7.

Moving into singles, the Spires continued their strong showing. Carlos Grimaldi won decisively at #1 singles 6-4, 6-4. Evan Maritz also secured a win at #3 singles 6-2, 6-3. Nudem Koyuncu won her match at #4 singles 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. Jack Contrucci fought hard at #5 singles, eventually winning 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. Nils Dueppe fell at #2 singles 4-6, 7-6, 1-6. Ryan Langdon lost at #6 singles 2-6, 4-6.

With this victory, the Spires improve their record to 3-4 overall and continue their strong showing in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC). The team will travel to McPherson on March 13th at 1pm.
