Eagles Sweep Opening Weekend, Soar to Historic 4-0 Start

TEXARKANA, Texas- The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Baseball team concluded their opening weekend with two final games versus the Valor of Evangel University. The Eagles successfully completed the sweep of the Valor and start the season off 4-0, for the first time in school history.

Game 3:

The Eagles continued their strong start to the season with a narrow victory over the Valor. Despite committing four errors, TAMUT's offense proved to be decisive enough to earn them the victory. James Provencio and Jason Armendariz led the offensive charge for the Eagles, each contributing two RBIs. Starting pitcher, Dylan Cabral, pitched 4.1 innings, allowing six runs (two earned), and relievers Marcus Tidwell and Frank Tinoco held the Valor scoreless for the final 2.2 innings. Evangel continued to battle, scoring three runs in the fifth to tie the game, but a sixth-inning rally by the Eagles sealed the victory.

Game 4:

The Eagles once again showcased their offensive power in game two of today's double header in a similar fashion as they did the day prior, overpowering the Valor with a dominant 15-0 shutout. The Eagles wasted no time building their lead, scoring in every inning besides one, piling up 10 hits, including a three-run triple by Brandon Riley and two more RBI's for James Provencio. The pitching staff was equally as impressive, starter Blake Taylor threw five scoreless innings, allow only three hits while striking out three others. The bullpen would continue to hold the Valor scoreless in the final two innings to complete the shutout.

The Eagles improve to 4-0 overall, riding the momentum from strong performances across the roster in both games. Baseball will be back in action next Friday and Saturday versus the Falcons of Friends University in another four-game series. Friday's games are scheduled to be played at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
