
Balanced Attack Lifts Men's Basketball to Second Win
Men's Basketball hosted Manhattan Christian on Thursday evening in Crete in the second game of the season. The Tigers scored 10 seconds into the game and led throughout as they posted an 83-56 win over the Thunder. Doane improved to 2-0 on the year while Manhattan Christian dropped their season opener.
Caleb Hrabik scored the first points of the game for Doane, taking a pass in the lane from Jack Wilson. Casen Chaney added a fast-break layup and a 3-point basket to put the Tigers up 7-0 before the Thunder were able to get on the scoreboard.
Doane pushed their lead to 14 points with 7:23 to play in the opening half only to have MCC go on an 8-0 run to pull within six points, 25-19. The Tigers responded with back-to-back 3-point baskets from Brady Timm and a fast-break layup from Chaney to go back in front by 14. Doane led 41-31 at the break.
At the midway mark of the second half, Doane was in the midst of a 13-0 run that would double their lead to 26 points, 73-47. The Tigers received 3-point baskets from Glavine McDonald, Chaney, and Zach Schmeeckle during the run. Doane's largest lead of the game was 29 points, 83-54, following a basket by Shelton Crawford.
For the game, Chaney led the Tigers with 20 points on 9-of-16 shooting, five rebounds, four steals, and seven assists. Timm posted 16 points, hitting four 3-point baskets, pulled down six rebounds, three steals, and seven assists. Jack Wilson finished with 14 points and five rebounds with McDonald adding 11 points and five rebounds.
Doane shot 43-percent from the floor for the game (34-of-79), hitting 15 3-point baskets. The Tigers had 16 offensive rounds leading to 20 second-chance points. Manhattan Christian shot 38-percent from the floor (21-of-55), hitting seven 3-point baskets in the game.
The Thunder were led by Davis Rokey with 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting. He also added six rebounds and two blocked shots. Landon Gray and Fred Crique added eight points apiece.
The Tigers will be back at home on Wednesday, November 6, when they host York at 7 PM following the women's contest at 5 PM against Peru State.
