Eagles Soar Past (RV)Saints with Dominant 89-71 Victory

TEXARKANA, Texas - The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Men's Basketball team hosted the nationally recieveing votes Saints of Our Lady of the Lake University this afternoon in the Patterson Student Center for game two of a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader. Having fallen 95-80 to the Saints in their first meeting this season, the Eagles aimed to turn the tables—and they did just that with a commanding 89-71 victory.

The Eagles dominated the interior, outscoring the Saints 36-12 in the paint.

TAMUT showcased their offensive efficiency in the first half, shooting 55% from the field and 41.7% from beyond the arc. In contrast, the Saints struggled, shooting just 28% overall and from three-point range. This disparity allowed the Eagles to build an 8-point lead heading into halftime, 43-35.

Although the Saints improved their shooting in the second half, the Eagles maintained their momentum and extended their lead to 18 points in the closing minutes of the game. TAMUT sealed the victory with a final score of 89-71.

Daryl Houston led the Eagles with 18 points and six rebounds, while Payton Chism and Rodney Mason each recorded four steals. Chism also dished out five assists in the win.

Head Coach Darion Brown praised his team, saying, "I think we did a great job in the second half of understanding the game plan and sticking with it. OLLU is a great and well-coached team. It was good to come out with high energy and actually play the Eagles way! Winning is always hard no matter the opponent, and today we showed flashes of what it looks like to take strides in becoming a good team! We have to keep the momentum going and have some carryover going into next week!"

With the victory, the Eagles improve to 12-6 overall and 11-5 in conference play. The team will return to action on Thursday, January 23rd, traveling to Dallas, Texas, to face the Tigers of Paul Quinn College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.
