LeCompte, La. – Opening the season at the Louisiana Christian University Play Day, Central Baptist College softball took on the #21 Generals of LSU-Alexandria and the Jaguars of the University of Houston-Victoria. CBC (1-1) split on the day, losing to LSU-Alexandria (2-0) 5-3 before taking the game from UHV (0-2) 18-8 in six innings.
GAME ONE - #21 LSU-ALEXANDRIA 5, CBC 3
The Generals scored 4 in the second and one in the third inning and led 5-0 after three. Kinley Johnson launched her first run of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth, to cut the deficit to 5-2 and then hit a solo home run in the sixth to make it 5-3. Alex Jeter went the distance for the loss, allowing nine hits and five runs (four earned) with two Ks.
GAME TWO – CBC 18, HOUSTON-VICTORIA 8 (SIX INNINGS)
The offense came to life in game two as CBC scored four in the third, six in the fourth, three in the fifth and five in the sixth to run rule UHV. Taviah Bradley had three hits and drove in a pair of runs while Kori Truelove scored four runs and drove in a pair. Kinley Johnson walked four times and scored two runs, Abi West hit her first home run of the season, a three-run shot in the fourth and Elizabeth Stoufer had three hits and two RBIs. Hailey Marange made her CBC debut in the circle, allowing eight runs (six earned) on nine hits with a pair of walks in two-and-one-third innings. Melanie Phillips got the win in relief, pitching the final three-and-two-thirds innings and allowing only five hits.
UP NEXT
CBC plays the final two games of the LCU Play Day tomorrow back at the Champion Sports Park. First pitch against Texas A&M-San Antonio is scheduled for 10 a.m. and first pitch against Webber International will follow that game.
