No. 1 Baseball Moves Past No. 10 Arizona Christian at East/West Challenge

LAKELAND, Fla.- The baseball team played their second game in the East/West Challenge. The second of their four games in the challenge came against the tenth-ranked Arizona Christian University Firestorm. The No. 1 ranked Bulldogs ended the game with a 4-3 victory.

Daniel Stewart played a big part in the win as he was responsible for bringing in all four of the runs TWU used to win the game. The first of his four RBIs occurred in the first inning. Edwin Toribio stood on second after a single and stolen base, and scored on Stewart's double to make the score 1-0. In the second inning, as second base was occupied by Josh Shelly and Brayan Espinoza stood on third, Stewart hit a ball to right field that resulted in a triple, allowing the two baserunners to score and move the team's lead to 3-0. The fourth run, which ended up turning into the game-winning run, came in the form of a solo home run by Stewart in the sixth inning. Arizona Christian scored three runs in the seventh inning but the Bulldogs held the Firestorm from scoring the game-tying run to hold on to their victory.

Stewart finished the game 3-4 from the plate. Daniel Batcher had six strikeouts in six innings to pick up the pitching win while Daniel Davila struck out three in the ninth inning to get the save.

The win moved the team's record to 2-0. The next game in the East/West Challenge sees the Bulldogs play the team they faced in the national championship game last season, No. 2 Hope International University. The game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
