KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After a rash of injuries hit the lineup, Avila was unable to pick up their second-straight victory on Friday night at Mabee Fieldhouse as they fell to Kansas Wesleyan, 3-0.
The Coyotes made quick work of the first set, winning 25-10.
Avila put up a fight in the second frame, falling 25-15. Avila had 16 kills, but also 16 errors through two sets.
A quick 6-4 lead in the third set gave Avila some momentum, but it was quickly squashed by a 9-1 KWU run. The Coyotes eventually took the final set, 25-13.
Sydney Owens put up a strong performance for Avila, notching four kills, five digs and two service aces on the evening. Freshman Avry Dunn also had one of the stronger performances of her collegiate career, tallying a career-high five assists and four digs from her libero roll on the court. Senior Paige Huhman led Avila with nine kills in the match.
The Eagles are in the midst of a four-match homestand. Avila (7-17, 1-5 KCAC) will be back on campus on Tuesday against Ottawa at 7 PM.
