LIMA, Ohio – Defiance College traveled to The Garage for a tri-match against the UNOH Racers and Cumberlands Patriots and were swept in straight sets in each match.
The Yellow Jackets (7-13, 1-6 WHAC) suffered their fourth straight conference loss after facing the Racers (13-10, 4-3 WHAC). The following loss to the Patriots (22-3) was the team's third consecutive straight-set loss and the third team in the NAIA Top 25 or receiving votes to defeat the Jackets in the last eight days.
Game 1 vs. UNOH (24-26, 22-25, 16-25)
Defiance lost two tough sets to start the match but dropped both to fall into a 2-0 hole. DC got out to an 11-5 start before the Racers rallied for 7 of the next 9 points to pull within one. UNOH went on a five-point run later in the set before the two teams traded points until the Racers prevailed. The second set was back-and-forth for the first half of the set. The Racers worked a five-point cushion at 16-11 and held off a late burst by Defiance to take a 2 set lead. UNOH was efficient hitting the ball and finished the contest with a .263 hitting percentage and made just 11 errors. Defiance hit .188 for the match and converted 18 kills during the second set.
Game 2 vs. Cumberland (18-25, 23-25, 25-14)
In the second match of the day, Defiance hit below .100 for the second time on the weekend while Cumberlands hit .255. The Patriots handed Defiance a 25-18 loss in set 1 and led by as many as 10 before DC closed the gap near the end of the set. The second set had a similar start but the Defiance rally started earlier and it carried on to a 23-23 tie near the end of the set. The Patriots grabbed the last two points of the set to put DC on the brink and went on to dominate the third set, 25-14.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Chaney Brodbeck led Defiance in kills in both matchs with 11 against UNOH and eight more versus Cumberlands.
- Jamia Murry totaled 15 kills for the afternoon and also added nine digs against the Racers.
- Jaelyn Tomoletz had a very efficient game against the Racers, converted 7 of 10 attacks into kills. She also registered six total blocks for the afternoon, including four assists in the second match.
- Shelby Clements was the team's top digger for the day with 24 combined, including 16 against UNOH
- Amina Chamoun and Kirsten Vanisacker split setting duties for DC. Chamoun had 20 assists in the first match. Vanisacker set a new career-high with 18 against UNOH and added 10 more against Cumberlands.

The Yellow Jackets return to action with a WHAC matchup at Lourdes on Wednesay night. First serve against the Gray Wolves at Russell J. Ebeid Recreational Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
