
#MustangsWin! CBC Opens AMC Play With Thrilling Five Set Win Over UHSP

St. Louis, Mo. – Playing an American Midwest Conference opponent for the first time this season, Central Baptist College volleyball was on the court at UHSP Gymnasium tonight for a matchup with the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Eutectics. CBC (1-5, 1-0 AMC) won sets one, three, and five to take the match 3-2 over UHSP (3-16, 0-1 AMC) by scores of 25-15, 21-25, 25-12, 23-25, and 18-16.
Madeline Freeman led the way in kills with 16, and she was joined in double figures by Lakyn Johnson, who had 15, and Faith Stone, who had 13 and an attack percentage of .600. Freeman also had 21 assists while Brooke Schmitz led the way with a career-high 33 while Freeman finished off her second triple-double of the season with 20 digs, joined in double figures by Kailee Walker, who led the way with a season-high 22, Sheridan Rogers had a season-high 21, Schmitz earned another double-double with 10 digs and Kate Scroggins had 12. The Mustangs had 62 kills and hit .170 while recording a season-high 12 service aces.
MATCH FLOW
The first 17 rallies of the match saw the Mustangs ahead 9-8. CBC would then go on a 4-1 run to take a 13-9 lead after an ace by Rogers and the Mustangs would capture 12 of the final 18 rallies, including the final four to close out the first set with a win. UHSP led by multiple points the entire second set to tie the match while set three saw CBC race out to a 14-4 lead before capturing the set by 13. In the fourth set, UHSP got out to a 20-12 lead before CBC chipped away and chipped away, eventually tying the set at 22 before UHSP sent to a fifth by capturing three of the final four points. In the fifth set, neither team led by more than two at any point and the Mustangs were down 15-16 before head coach Halee Hensley, who earned her first win at the helm, called a timeout, which worked to perfection as the Mustangs captured the final three points to earn win #1.
