Huntington defeats the Defiance on the road 106-43
HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Defiance College Yellow Jackets visited Huntington at Platt Arena on Saturday afternoon, but fell short of the Foresters 106-43 in their fourth game on the road.
A trio in green helped Huntington jump out to an early 6-point lead when DC's Makaiya Thomas tightened the gap to four with a quick jump shot. After a few more from the Foresters, Chandler Duncan found an open spot to hit her first three ball of the season, Huntington led 12-5 with six minutes remaining in the first quarter.
The Foresters then hit a hot streak until near the 8-minute mark of the second quarter with 19 consecutive points, until Ali Mowen disrupted their momentum with her first bucket of the game. Both Defiance and Huntington made shots to round out the first half, but the Foresters slowly increased their lead as the clock ran out. At the break, the home team led DC 55-17.
As the second half took off, Thomas was fouled by Huntington's Annaka Nelson bringing her to the free-throw line for two, making both. The game remained aggressive with 19 combined fouls and 15 turnovers. However, Defiance was outscored 51-26 in the final 30 minutes of play.
THE TURNING POINT
DC had a strong, 15-point fourth quarter with contributions from Morgan Crowe, Duncan, Jourdyn Wynn, Thomas and JaKiah Mitchell. They scored faster and more frequently, but couldn't quite catch up to the Foresters.
