HIALEAH, Florida – The Spartanburg Methodist College women's soccer team extended its winning streak to seven with a 3-2 win over Florida College on Thursday.
The Pioneers (7-1, 2-0 CAC) were paced by a two-goal effort from Caroline Taylor, a freshman from Landrum. The first-year player took advantage of a build up by her teammates up the pitch, who cut in front of the Falcons defender after a pass by Addie Hawkins to the lower corner of the goal for the early lead in the sixth minute.
It was the second goal of her young SMC career as the Pioneers outshot FC by a 12-5 margin in the win. Hawkins led the attack with four shots – three on goal in the win.
The Pioneers added a second goal in the half as Kennedy Olheiser and Kaylee Damsen worked together in the 32nd minute.
Florida College (0-6-1, 0-2) managed to disrupt the shutout bid with a goal in the 60th minute when Shannen Cheney scored.
Taylor got SMC back on the scoreboard when she took advantage of a misplay by the Florida College goalkeeper for her second goal of the contest in the 61st minute.
FC managed to make it a one-goal game when they scored in the 86thminute for the final margin.
It will be a quick turnaround for SMC, who will face Florida National on Friday at 10 a.m. at Ted Hendricks Stadium in Henry Milander Park in Hialeah, Florida.
