Turkey, Ravens Derail Women's Volleyball
The Culver-Stockton College women's volleyball team's weekend trip to play nationally-ranked Benedictine College and Park University got off to a rocky start.
The Wildcats were en route to Atchison, Kan., to face 25th-ranked Benedictine College Friday afternoon when a turkey flew into the windshield of the bus and shattered the glass. The incident caused the Wildcats to arrive late for the scheduled 7 p.m. first serve.
Instead, the match started at 9:30 p.m. and the Wildcats never found their footing in a 25-17, 25-27, 25-20 loss to the Ravens.
Abby Godwin led a balanced hitting attack with seven kills while Addie Force and Ashleigh Brawley registered six terminations each. Sam Wright totaled 14 set assists and Lauren Bloom added 11 set assists in the match.
Kyla Ellis continued her stellar season in the back row with 18 digs. Ellis was the only Wildcat to reach double figures in that category. Wright had nine digs and Godwin garnered seven digs.
The Wildcats are right back in action tomorrow afternoon in another Heart of America Athletic Conference match at Park University in Parkville, Mo. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the Breckon Center.
