Alice Lloyd Eagles falter in second half, fall at Ohio Christian University, 92-83

Circleville, OH: On November 12th, the Alice Lloyd Eagles basketball squad traveled to the Buckeye state to face the undefeated Ohio Christian University Trailblazers. The Eagles would lead the entire first half but fell behind late to the Ohio club before dropping a 92-83 decision.

In the opening stanza, the Eagles came out looking to pound the ball inside and had incredible success. Sophomore forward Jackson Tackett would have his way as he preceded to pump in 17 first-half points with an array of moves before leaving the court in foul trouble. His effort would enable the Caney Creek crew to go into intermission nursing a 41-37 lead.

In the second half, the Kentucky boys saw OCU heat up behind the inside-outside duo of Caleb Schmelzer and Chapman Faulkner. They would help lift their club on a big run to take the lead. ALC got a nice second half from senior forward Ben Soumahoro, but the Trailblazers made the biggest plays down the stretch and managed to pull out the come-from-behind victory.

 For Alice Lloyd (4-1), they were led on the night by Tackett, who pumped in 22 points. He was followed by Soumahoro with a double-double of 19 points and 10 boards. Also reaching double digits were senior guard Jared Strickland and junior guard Koji Anderson, with 11 points each. In addition, sophomore guard Landon Napier chipped in with 10 points. 

On the day, the Caney Creek crew finished at 41.4% (29-70) from the field, including 23.5% (4-17) from beyond the arc. They also hit 80.8% (21-26) from the charity stripe, grabbed 45 rebounds, handed out 15 assists, and nabbed 6 steals. 

OCU (3-0) was led by Faulkner and Schmelzer with 24 and 23 points. Their squad connected on 48.1% (26-54) from the field, 45.8% (11-24) from beyond the arc and 74.4% (29-39) from the foul line. Additionally, they snared 26 rebounds, handed off 15 assists, and stole 4 balls.
