Baseball Suffers First Loss of Season

Baseball closed out the southern swing in Kansas with a rematch against McPherson on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers scored first but the Bulldogs rallied to hand Doane their first loss of the season, 6-4.

In the top of the 1st inning, Brayden Jones singled to drive in Logan Amick. McPherson tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning. The Bulldogs took the lead with an RBI-single in the 2nd inning. Doane tied the game in the top of the 3rd inning as Justin Nevells scored on an error. McPherson used a solo home run in the bottom of the frame to regain the lead and added a run in the 5th inning and two more in the 6th to take a 6-2 lead.

In the 7th inning, Doane scored a run as Dane Kelsey was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Max Harris drew a bases loaded walk to pull Doane within two runs but the Tigers were unable to pick up another run as the game ended.

Alec Harshaw started for Doane on the hill and threw 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out two. Raidyn Steele tossed 1.1 innings, allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts. Carter Baete finished with 3.0 innings of work, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk while striking out two.

Doane had seven hits in the game, three from Amick and two from Jones. Amick scored two of the Tiger runs.

Next on the schedule for Doane is a trip to Oklahoma City where the Tigers will take on the Stars at 3 PM on February 14.
