WAU Men’s Basketball Overwhelmed by USC Aiken, Falls 109-65 on the Road

Aiken, SC—The Washington Adventist University (WAU) men's basketball team faced a tough challenge against NCAA Division II opponent USC Aiken on Thursday, November 14, falling 109-65 in Aiken, SC. The Shock struggled to keep pace with the Pacers' high-powered offense and defensive intensity.

USC Aiken set the tone early, opening the game with a relentless scoring attack that left WAU playing catch-up for much of the first half. Despite solid efforts from Chase Cooke, who led the Shock in scoring, and Jaziel Mensah-Agyekum, who added key rebounds and assists, WAU trailed significantly by halftime, down 51-26.

In the second half, WAU attempted to mount a comeback with contributions from Mensah-Agyekum, who provided a spark off the bench, and Jalen Anderson, who hit a pair of three-pointers to energize the offense. However, USC Aiken's depth and consistency proved too much to overcome as the Pacers maintained their dominance, extending their lead to seal the decisive 109-65 victory.

The Shock shot 34.4 percent (32-of-61) from the field, with six of its makes coming from long range. Cooke led the Shock in scoring, finishing with 21 points and four rebounds, while Anderson followed with 15 points.

Mensah-Agyekum (11), Armon Williams (6), Julian King (5, Jaylin McNeil (4), and Seth Wright (3) also found the scoring column. Mensah-Agyekum led the team in rebounding, grabbing seven boards for the Shock. Eight Shock players saw time on the floor.

The loss drops WAU to 1-6 on the season. The Shock will regroup and aim to bounce back in their home opener, taking on Indiana University East on Saturday, November 16 at the Pitt.
