MESA, Ariz. — The Morningside men's volleyball team started strong against No. 9 Benedictine Mesa on Tuesday, but the Redhawks took the next three sets to take the four-set victory.
The Redhawks won by set scores of 26-28, 26-24, 25-16, and 25-23.
Morningside hit .311 in the match, including a .412 mark from Mohamed Benkrid. Natan Alves also hit .368, and he led the Mustangs with 19 kills.
The Mustangs had three other hitters in double figures: Donte Jennings with 15, Liam Lutz with 10 and Benkrid with 10.
Jacob DePauw led the Mustangs with 27 assists, while Gabe Schreck had 21.
Owen Anderson recorded a team-high 12 digs, and DePauw had nine.
Alves scored all three points at the end of the first set. With the score tied at 25-25, Alves recorded a service ace, while getting the last two points from kills. Schreck and Benkrid had the set-clinching assists.
