Quick Facts

The Mustangs made program history in their last game, scoring 100 points for a third consecutive game in a 103-88 win over Dordt. Two Mustangs reached the 1,000 career points mark in the win. Joey Skoff was the first to do it in the second half, and Ely Doble reached that mark on a free throw in the winding seconds of the game. One more Morningside player is close to the 1,000 point milestone. Aidan Vanderloo needs nine points in Wednesday’s contest. The Mustangs swept Briar Cliff last season, winning by six and seven points in the regular season and defeating the Chargers 101-95 in the GPAC Quarterfinals.

Head Coach: Trent Miller (3rd season) Trent Miller became the program’s 22nd head coach in March 2021. He’s proven invaluable to the Mustangs’ staff, leading the team to a Great Plains Athletic Conference in his second season as head coach (2023), for which he was named GPAC Coach of the Year. The Mustangs moved on to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Men’s Basketball Championship First and Second Rounds, winning their bracket to advance to the Round of 16 in Kansas City. As an assistant, the alumnus helped lead the Mustangs to four straight Great Plains Athletic Conference championships, four successive GPAC postseason tournament appearances, and four consecutive NAIA national tournament appearances, including reaching the Round of Eight in 2019. The program compiled a remarkable 105-20 record during his time as an assistant, and Miller was involved with mentoring three NAIA AllAmericans and eight first team allconference selections.

Head Coach: Mark Svagera (6th season) Mark Svagera has served as the head coach of the Briar Cliff men’s basketball team since the 2017-18 season. The 2022-23 season will be Svagera’s sixth at the helm of the historic Charger program. The team went 19-12 in the 2021-22 season and 15-5 in GPAC play and coach Svagera was named the GPAC Coach of the Year. The Chargers were the GPAC Regular Season Co-Champions, earning an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament. Five Chargers earned all-GPAC honors, led by Jaden Kleinhesselink’s first-team allconference selection. Kleinhesselink was also named an Honorable Mention All-American. Kyle Boerhave and Quinn Vesey were named to the second team, while Conner Groves and Quinten Vasa were honorable mentions. Svagera has helped the Cliff reach the national tournament seven times with three appearances as a head coach and four as an assistant as he spent six seasons as the team’s top assistant.
