Women's Basketball continues hot start to season as they earn a 10-point win over Park

PARKVILLE, Mo. – No. 23 Benedictine Women's Basketball remained undefeated to start the year on Wednesday night with a 74-64 win over Park University.

The Ravens limited the Pirates to single digits on the scoreboard until the 5:30 mark in the second quarter as they used another hot start to put distance between themselves and their opponent.

Benedictine opened the game with a 10-1 run and pushed that lead to 20-6 at the end of the first quarter. They pounded the ball inside while limiting the Pirates as they outscored Park 12-2 in the paint. 

The Pirates got their scoring going in the later minutes of the second quarter as they were able to get the ball inside scoring 10 points in the paint to send the game into halftime with Benedictine holding a 37-21 lead. 

The second half opened with a balanced offensive attack from each team as they each finished with 22 points allowing Benedictine to maintain their halftime advantage of 16 points.

After Benedictine scored the final 7 points of the third quarter, Park started the fourth quarter with a 12-6 scoring advantage that trimmed Benedictine's lead to 10 points. After a 3-pointer from Kennedy Nicholson pushed Benedictine back to a 13-point lead, the Pirates held the Ravens scoreless from the floor the rest the game to pull as close at 7 points before the Ravens sealed the win from the charity stripe.

Three Ravens scored in double figures, led by Josie Weishaar with 19. Nicholson was next with 11 while Lauryn Dubber added 10. The Ravens held a 27-17 advantage in points off turnovers as they forced the Pirates into 20 turnovers. Benedictine finished with at 15-point lead in points off the bench as Carmen Morales and Nichole Storck scored 7 points each while Riley Bruggeman added 6. Benedictine also assisted on 23 of 27 field goals led by Weishaar with 6. Dubbert added 5 while Nicholson and Bruggeman finished with 4 each. 

Benedictine remains on the road Saturday, as they will travel to Cook Center on the campus of MNU in Olathe for the Heart Conference Network Game of the Week against the No. 24-ranked Pioneers.
