
Kirk, Meny Homer Twice as Wildcat Nine Splits to End Opening Weekend
The Culver-Stockton baseball team concluded the opening weekend with a split of a doubleheader at Bethel University in McKenzie, Tenn., Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats claimed the first game Saturday 5-4 behind 5 1/3 innings pitch by Cole Parkhill and 1/1/3 innings of relief from Isaiah Naylor.
Parkhill scattered three hits and allowed two runs in recording 17 outs. He walked four and struck out six in earning the victory. Naylor registered the final four outs, allowing two runs in the seventh, to pick up his first C-SC save.
Offensively, Tristan Meny got the Wildcats rolling with a two-run homer in the first inning. Meny finished with two hits in the game to lead the way. C-SC totaled eight hits overall in the game.
In the nightcap, the Wildcats collected nine hits and were issued seven walks in a 15-10 loss to end the weekend.
The Wildcats trailed 1-0 after one inning but a Kannon Kirk three run homer gave C-SC a 3-1 lead. Bethell added four runs in the bottom of the second and in th third and fourth inning to take a 7-3 lead before Kirk struck again with his second three-run homer to pull the Wildcats to within 7-6.
However, Bethel put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth inning with an eight run inning to take a 15-6 lead. C-SC made things interesting in the sixth inning by scoring four times as Meny drilled a three-run homer and Ryan Osso delivered a run-scoring single to close within five runs.
Kirk finished the game with four hits in five at-bats and six runs batted in, while Meny and Osso collected two hits each.
The Wildcats (1-3) return to action next Saturday, Feb. 15, with two games in Joplin, Mo. C-SC faces Northwestern (Iowa) at 1:30 and William Penn (Iowa) at 4:30 p.m.
