
Eagles Rout Fontbonne in Record-Breaking Performance
HILO, Hawai'i (12/18/24) – The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team set multiple records as it took a 120-39 win over Fontbonne in its final game of the Big Island Holiday Classic inside the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium on Tuesday night.
As a team, WBU knocked down a program-record 51 field goals in 90 attempts (56.7 percent) and a program-record 16 three-pointers in 37 attempts (43.2 percent). The team also set a new record for assists with 37 on the night. Taylor Hooten also set a new individual single-game record for assists in a game with 13.
Carmen Taylor and Charmen Taylor led the way for the Lady Eagles with 22 points each, Carmen knocked down five three-pointers, while Charmen went 10-for-11 from the field.
Kaylee Isaacs followed close behind with 19 points, and Monica Horne tacked on 16 on 8-for-9 shooting. Taylyn Davis also finished in the double digits for the second time in her career with 14 points off the bench.
WBU started the game on a 14-4 run sparked by a Kaylee Isaacs layup. That lead grew to as much as 40 before the halftime buzzer as WBU held the Griffins to only seven points in the stanza to take a 59-22 lead into the locker room.
The Eagles dominated defensively after the intermission, out-scoring Fontbonne 32-4 in the third quarter to extend the lead to 65 to start the fourth quarter.
A Seanlajah Smith triple pushed Williams over the century mark, and an Abby Alphin jumper gave the Eagles their largest lead of the night at 81. WBU never trailed in the contest.
Williams improves to 8-3 overall on the season as the team rides a three-game win streak. Next, WBU will take on Ouachita Baptist in an exhibition game at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31 in Arkadelphia, Ark.
