Volleyball Caps Senior Day with 3-1 Win Over Spring Arbor

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's volleyball team hosted Spring Arbor University during the Cougars' Senior and Alumni Day on Saturday, October 26.

Saint Francis defeated Spring Arbor by a final score of 3-1, with set scores of 25-15, 19-25, 25-19, 25-22. Following Saturday's big conference win, USF volleyball recognized its five seniors, Sparks, FortkampStoutMadden, and Shafer, with a special on-court ceremony.

The Cougars began the match strong with a .481 hitting percentage and 14 kills during their 10-point win in the first set. USF and SAU battled back-and-forth to open the second set, with Spring Arbor eventually pulling ahead to win set two and tie the match at 1-1. In set three, the teams continued to exchange points. With the score tied at 7-7, Saint Francis took the lead for good, going on to win set three 24-19. After Spring Arbor snagged the 13-12 lead in the fourth, USF went on a 6-1 run to gain an 18-14 advantage. Spring Arbor would try to rally, but USF would hang on to win the fourth set for a 3-1 victory overall.

As a team, the Cougars had 52 kills, 17 total blocks and 11 service aces. Paige Fortkamp finished the match with 22 kills behind a .283 hitting percentage. The senior outside hitter also led in aces with six and added three block assists. Fellow senior Addison Shafer added 10 kills, while Emily Hughes had six kills, one solo block and four block assists. Teigen Fortkamp tallied 29 assists and four kills of her own during Saturday's game. Hannah Sweeney led the team in digs with 21.

Up next, USF volleyball (10-17, 3-12) will host Taylor University for the Cougars' last home matchup of the season on October 30.
