Pioneer Softball swept the Lady Bearcats of Rust College this afternoon, claiming both contests by run rule after five innings of action. CRC improves to .500, sitting 6-6 on the year.
Game 1
Crowley's Ridge- 9
Rust College- 1
Holly Springs, MS- The Lady Pioneers held the Bearcats to a lone run off five hits in game one while the Pioneer bats pushed 9 runners across the plate with 13 base knocks. Rust College's solo run came in the bottom of the first after the Pioneers placed a 3-spot in the opening three-out frame as Karsen Overshine, Jocelyn Villarreal, and Kylie Cox brought in one run. For the remainder of the game, the Pioneers pushed 6 more unanswered runs across the plate with 2 in the second and 3 in the third before Kourtni Jagneaux ended the game with an RBI single in the top of the fifth. Halea Wells earned the win by whirling 3.0 innings, allowing 1 run off 4 hits with one strikeout before being relieved by Aimee Buckley who closed the game with 1 hit while fanning 5 Bearcats in her 2.0 innings of work. Four Pioneers had munti hit games. Karsen Overshine led the way going 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs. Jada Diaz and Kourtni Jagneaux collected two RBIs with Diaz going 2 for 4 with two doubles and Jagneaux going 2 for 2 with two walks.
Game 2
Crowley's Ridge- 9
Rust College- 1
Holly Springs, MS- For a second contest in a row, Crowley's Ridge defeated Rust College with a run-rule thanks to a consistent production of unanswered runs by the Pioneer offense. The Bearcats' defense would stall CRC to 9 hits in round two, breaking the Pioneers' five-game double-digit hits streak but wouldn't slow their scoring production with the Pioneers pushing 9 runs off their 9 hits. After Rust College took the lead in the second, 1-0, the Pioneers responded with back-to-back four-run innings in the 3rd and fourth before seeing Jocelyn Villarreal bring in Alyssa Dirden for the 9th and final run in the fifth. Natalie Brightwell earned her third win of the season allowing 1 run off 3 hits and striking out 4 in 4.0 innings. Ava Jessup relieved Brightwell, finishing the contest by allowing no hits while striking out 2 in her 1.0 inning in the circle. Kylie Cox, Jocelyn Villarreal, and Maddie Burris posted two hits games with Cox leading the trio going 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs.
Up Next: The Pioneers will stay on the road, taking on Ecclesia College this Thursday, March 13th in Springdale, Ark. in a non-conference doubleheader. #GOPIONEERS
