OMAHA, Neb. – Bre Oettle's goal in the 50th minute stood as the lone score in the match, as the University of Jamestown held off College of Saint Mary 1-0 Thursday in nonconference soccer at the CSM complex.
The Jimmies, who are transitioning to the NCAA Division II level, followed up on a 2-0 victory over the Flames in the season opener for both schools on Aug. 18.
"I thought it was a lot better than the first time we played them,'' CSM Coach Jamison Parkhill said. "We actually created more opportunities. We had opportunities to equalize.''
The Jimmies outshot CSM 16-3 in the first meeting, but held just a 13-11 advantage on Thursday. Going into a strong wind in the second half, the Flames gave themselves multiple chances to even things in the final 40 minutes.
"I thought the second half we played a lot better,'' Parkhill said.
Keeper Alivia Schade made eight saves for the Flames. Marissa Ring and Bella Olsen had three shots apiece, and Camila Muñoz and Abbie Anderson were credited with two each. For a variety of reasons, CSM didn't have its usual lineup on the field.
"We'll just take the positives,'' Parkhill said. "I thought it was a night-and-day difference from when we played them the first time.''
College of Saint Mary returns to action at home on Saturday with a 3 p.m. Great Plains Athletic Conference match against Briar Cliff University.
