#MustangsWin! #14 CBC Holds Off Late Charge from Webber International to Set Up Showdown With Freed-Hardeman!

            Siloam Springs, Ark. – Playing on the final day of the John Brown University Classic, #14 Central Baptist College men's basketball took on Webber International in the first meeting between the two schools and a meeting of two NAIA National Tournament teams. #14 CBC (5-0) held off a late charge from WIU (1-4) to win 75-66.

            Sage Borbon was the leading scorer with 13 points while Gabe Johnson chipped in with 11 and Wade Williams added 10. Williams and Hykeem Hancock were the co-leading rebounders with eight each and Johnson had seven assists to lead the Mustangs. CBC shot 43 percent from the field, made eight threes and went 9-11 at the stripe while forcing 14 turnovers, translating into 13 points.

GAME FLOW

            The game saw five ties and six lead changes as CBC took a 34-23 lead into halftime, closing the first half on a 9-0 run over the final 3:58. In the second half, the lead stayed at 11 (36-25) with 19:06 to play before Webber went on an 18-4 run to put the Mustangs down 43-40 with 14:03 left. The game would either be tied or see CBC trailing until the 10:53 mark when a three by Devon Jefferson gave the Mustangs a 51-49 lead. CBC would never relinquish the lead after that, going on a 12-5 run over a 4:11 stretch to lead 63-54 with 6:42 to play. The Mustangs never let the lead drop below seven the rest of the game to reach 5-0 on the season.

UP NEXT

            #14 CBC heads to Henderson, Tenn., on Thursday for a matchup with the defending national champions, #4 Freed-Hardeman, the team that ended their season last year. Tipoff from the Brewer Sports Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
