No. 14 Mustangs drop conference road contest

CRETE, Neb. – The Morningside men's basketball team started off 2025 with a loss, as Doane defeated the 14th-ranked Mustangs, 64-57, on Saturday.

Doane held the Mustangs to 37 percent shooting, and just five made 3-pointers.

The Mustangs trailed for most of the contest, but did take the lead with 6 minutes, 10 seconds remaining, thanks to a 3-point conventional play from Joey Skoff.

Skoff led the Mustangs with 19 points, making seven field goals and four free throws. He is No. 2 all-time in Morningside scoring history passing Danny Rudeen, and needs 12 points next Saturday to break the career record. He also needs 24 to reach the 2,000-point mark.

Aidan Vanderloo scored 12 points, while Brendan Buckley had 10.

Vanderloo and Justin Sitti tied with five rebounds. Sitti also had six points, five assists and five steals.
