Saints Take Home Big Win in Season Opener

Saints Take Home Big Win in Season Opener

First Half:

The Saints took control early, leading 38-23 at halftime. Sophomore standout Joey Garwood (Elkhart, IN/Penn HS) made a huge impact in his Holy Cross College debut, hitting 2 of 3 from beyond the arc and sinking 5 of 6 from the free-throw line, finishing the first half with an impressive 11 points. Senior Phil Robels II (South Bend, IN/Purdue Fort Wayne) also showed up for the Saints in first half, contributing 14 points with a solid shooting performance, going 5 for 8 from the field.

The team's defense was stifling, with Davide Brembilla (Alghero, Italy/Don Bosco Prep) grabbing 11 rebounds—8 of which were defensive— and put up 8 points, helping to limit the Phantoms' second-chance opportunities.

Second Half:

The energy on the court surged in the second half as the Saints brought in Callaghan Weatherspoon (Dayton OH/Chaminade Julienne Catholic HS). His dynamic ball handling and infectious energy ignited the crowd, creating a thrilling atmosphere. Weatherspoon's ability to penetrate the defense opened opportunities for his teammates and kept the Phantoms on their toes.

The Saints continued to extend their lead, demonstrating their bench's depth as the game progressed. Contributions from the bench were crucial, maintaining the momentum and ensuring a well-rounded team effort. The Saints would go on to win the game 84-58.
