SWEDES SMASH STREAK WITH WIN OVER HASKELL; 3-1

Lindsborg, Kan. - Bethany College hosted Haskell Indian Nations University, Tuesday, October 15th, in Hahn Gymnasium in a weekday matchup. The Swedes came into this game hungry to break their recent losing streak and earn a win. Bethany started off slow which allowed Haskell to take set 1, but were able to force an extra set and end the night with a 3-1 victory.

Set 1: Bethany would be slow to find their footing in the first set as Haskell got off to an early lead. Swedes were down by 6 at 9-3 in which they would struggle to cut the deficient. Haskell kept Bethany from finding momentum and would finish the set, 19-25.

Set 2: The Swedes came out in set 2 in similar fashion but didn't let Haskell go on a long run. The set was tied up at 12-12, when Bethany hit the gas and took off on a run of their own. The Swedes were ahead by 3 at 17-14 when Haskell crept back in and were within 1 point at 19-20. From there, Bethany would close out the set at 25-22.

Set 3: The third set would be the most dominating performance for the Swedes as were hitting a .294 as a team. The start of the set would be steady for both teams but at the 5-6 mark, Bethany would overcome Haskell's lead and go on a devasting run that would leave Haskell down by 8, 18-10. From there the Swedes closed out the set with a final score of 25-11.

Set 4: After their commanding performance in the third set, the Swedes set out to finish the match in 4. Haskell kept the lead until around the 8-8 mark where Bethany would take over and push points. The Swedes extended their lead to 4 at 17-13 and then to 6 at 21-16. But Haskell wouldn't give up that easily and managed to get within 3 at 23-20 before the Swedes took the set. Final score, Bethany 25, Haskell 21.

Notable stats from this game include 13 kills and 3 blocks by Autry Satica, 4 blocks and hitting a .267 was Melia Coleman, 36 digs and 3 service aces by Michelle Acevedo-Ortiz, and 25 assists by Katie Voss.
