Second Half Troubles Doom MVNU against No. 9 Saint Francis

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team (14-11, 6-9 CL) fell in Ariel Arena to No. 9 Saint Francis (22-3, 12-3 CL) on Wednesday, February 12 by a final score of 61-93. 

MVNU put together a strong opening quarter and led 16-12 after the first. Serenitee Johnson and Teresa Maggio combined for all MVNU's points, with Johnson starting the game with nine and Maggio with seven. The game remained close throughout the second quarter. USF built up a little momentum before the break and went into halftime leading 37-35. 

A huge second half by USF doomed MVNU, as the guests shot lights out the rest of the ballgame. USF shot 50% from the floor and 43% from deep in the third, and a blistering 65% from the floor and 9-12 from three in the fourth. In the fourth quarter, MVNU was outscored 34-13 in the loss.

For the game, Saint Francis shot 57% from the field and hit 15 threes at a 51.7% clip. 

MVNU shot 41.1% from the floor and was 33.3% (7-21) from deep. 

Maggio - 15 points (5-13 FG, 1-5 3PT, 4-4 FT), 2 rebounds, 2 steals. 

Johnson - 12 points (5-14 FG, 1-3 3PT, 1-2 FT), 2 assists, 1 steal. 

Angela Roshak - 10 points (5-7 FG), 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block. 

Megan Weakley - 8 points (2-3 FG, 2-2 3PT, 2-2 FT) 1 rebound, 1 assist.
