Volleyball Splits Final Day at Eutectic Classic Before Start of Conference Play

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Brescia University women's volleyball team split the final day of the Eutectic Classic with a loss against Evangel and a win over St. Francis. The Bearcats extend their record to 4-12 on the year.

Match 1: Evangel 3 Bearcats 0

The Bearcats struggled in match one of the final day as they picked up a three set loss to Evangel. The Valor took the match with scores of 25-12, 25-19, and 25-12. Despite the Bearcats jumping out to a 3-0 lead, BU struggled to hold the Valor as they take set one. Set two was much closer as BU started to power up offensively. A 6-1 run by Evangel made the difference in the set two loss as the Valor came back from the deficit to take a two-set advantage. By the first two sets, the Bearcat offense had run out of steam as they take the loss in three sets. 

Callie Mason led with 11 kills on 28 chances and six digs. Cheaney Archer totaled 23 assists and six digs.

Match 2: Bearcats 3 St. Francis 1

Match two for the Bearcats ended in a four-set contest against St. Francis with scores of 27-25, 25-21, 14-25, and 25-19. The Bearcats started behind in set one but came surging back to take the win 27-25. BU continued to pressure the Fighting Saints as a kill by Jasmin Jones sealed the set two winner. Although the offense struggled in set three, Brescia grabbed the set four win, 25-19.

Mason put on another hitting clinic with 22 kills for a .288 percentage while Archer assisted 44 times. Campbell McBride grabbed 19 digs on the match to end the classic for the Bearcats.

The Bearcats begin conference play with matches against Rio Grande on Friday, Sep. 20^th and WVU Tech on Saturday, Sep. 21 with times of 7pm and 12pm CT. Both matches will be played at home in the Moore Center Gym.
