Volleyball Wins Both Matches on First Day of Volleyesta Tourney

SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 23, 2024) - The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball squad defeated Nelson University (NU) and Oklahoma City University (OCU) on Friday at the Volleyesta Tourney. The Saints improve to 3-3 on the season. 

vs. Nelson University

Basics

The Saints opened play at the Volleyesta Tourney with a four-set win over Nelson University. The Lions grabbed the first set by totaling 13 kills for a .265 hitting percentage. The Saints responded in the second set with 14 kills and only two errors. They hit over .250 in the third and fourth sets to grab the win. They closed the final set with only one error. Three different players had three service aces.

Set review

In the first set, OLLU recorded 11 kills and five errors on 38 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .158.

The Saints had 14 kills in the second set and two errors on 30 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .400.

In the third set, OLLU recorded 14 kills and six errors on 28 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .286.

The Saints had 10 kills in the fourth set and one error on 23 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .391.

On the offense

Overall, the Saints had 49 kills for a hitting percentage of .294. NU totaled 40 kills for a hitting percentage of .111.

Camila Ramirez led the Saints with 14 kills. Lilly Hanna totaled a team-high 10 kills for the Lions.

Lauren Reynard assisted on 29 plays for the Saints while Cassidy Hargesheimer tallied 21 assists for NU.

Defensive standouts

OLLU had a total of 44 digs, led by Tina Trevino with 16. Tessa Glick tallied 20 digs for the Lions.

Serving it up

Three different players led the Saints with three service aces apiece. Glick had two service aces for the Lions.

vs. Oklahoma City University

Basics

OLLU continued to play well in the second match of the day. They had double digit kills in three of the four sets against the Stars. The Stars had negative hitting percentages in both the first and second set. The Saints won the first two sets backed by a total of 23 kills. The Stars made a late comeback in the third set to force another frame. The Saints closed the match in the fourth set with 16 kills. They won the frame in an exciting 25-23 victory.

In the first set, OLLU recorded 15 kills and seven errors on 41 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .195.

The Saints had eight kills in the second set and six errors on 28 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .071.

In the third set, OLLU recorded 10 kills and six errors on 33 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .121.

The Saints had 16 kills in the fourth set and six errors on 50 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .200.

On the offense

Overall, the Saints had 49 kills for a hitting percentage of .158. Oklahoma City totaled 36 kills for a hitting percentage of .040.

Mia Dorsey led the Saints with 14 kills. Maddie Edwards and Rylee Steward totaled a team-high seven kills each for the Stars.

Reynard and Arianna Moreno assisted on 22 plays apiece for the Saints while Natalie Adams tallied 15 assists for Oklahoma City.

Defensive standouts

OLLU had a total of 77 digs, led by Trevino with 32. Joeci Hunt tallied 17 digs for the Stars.

Trevino had two service aces for the Saints. Hunt had two service aces for the Stars.
