
Mustangs claim doubles point, fall in spring break finale
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – A doubles win gave Morningside an early advantage in its women's tennis finale in South Carolina, but a sweep of singles play gave Division IILake Superior state the win, 6-1.
It was Kailee Bailey and Stefany Simplicio to report their 6-3 victory first, followed by Line Jensen and Brooke Marshall, who won 7-6 with a 7-6 tiebreaker, to win the doubles point in the match.
Lidia Suarez nearly added to Morningside's team score, battling back from a 3-6 loss with a 6-3 win, falling in a 10-7 super tiebreaker. Sophia Guntren lost a 7-5 tiebreaker in a 7-6 first set, but fell 6-0 the second set of her match.
The Mustangs now head back to the midwest and prepare for a trip to Newton, Kan. to square off with Bethel on March 13.
