HUNTSVILLE, Al. – The Brescia University baseball team opened their season at Oakwood University where they grabbed two wins against the Ambassadors. They start the season 2-0 following the victories.
Game 1: Bearcats 8 Oakwood 0
The Bearcats drew first blood in the top of the second inning as a double by Artem Logvinov got the inning started. Logvinov moved to third on a Chase Christie single to right field as Kyle Brown's SAC fly scored Logvinov on the tag up from third base. Noe Marrero scored on a passed ball in the fifth after courtesy running for catcher, Byrce Gamble, following is hit by pitch at-bat.
The Bearcats exploded in the seventh inning as the Ambassador's pitcher walked the bases loaded and then walked in the Bearcats third run. A Chase Christie bomb over the right field fence cleared the bases for his first homerun of the year as the Bearcats took a 7-0 lead. An error by the Oakwood defense allowed Kyle Brown to score for BU eighth and final run.
Peyton Cary got his first win on the bump, pitching four innings, giving up two hits and adding six strikeouts.
Game 2: Bearcats 11 Oakwood 3
Oakwood struck first in game two as a fielding error pushed across the first run of the game. The Bearcats bounced back in the second inning, putting up three runs on three hits. BU continued where they left off scoring two more runs in the top of the third as they maintained a 5-1 lead over Oakwood. OU would score on back-to-back hits to cut the Brescia lead to two. The Bearcats scored two more in the fifth inning before adding four more in the seventh to take the 11-3 win.
Bryce Gamble went 2-3 at the plate with two runs, Andres Martinez went 2-2 with three RBIs, and Jonny Foti went 2-4 with a run and an RBI.
Dylan Warda got his first win on the bump for the Bearcats, going three innings with four strikeouts.
The Bearcats will head to Laurel, MS to take on Southeastern Baptist for a three-game series on Saturday, Feb. 8th.
