Women's volleyball team never trails, closes home slate with rout of ALC
MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway put together its most dominant performance of the season in its final home match Tuesday, never trailing in a 25-8, 25-15, 25-16 win over in-state, River States Conference foe Alice Lloyd.
Tuesday marked the first time the Eagles haven't trailed in a match since an Oct. 11, 2022 meeting with Brescia.
After the teams played to a 2-2 tie in the first set, the Eagles proceeded to score the next 13 points behind the dominant serve of Emily Slaughter.
Slaughter had six aces during the run, including a stretch where she had four in a row. She finished the night with seven aces, the most an Eagle player has recorded since Valarie Ramos had eight in an Oct. 16, 2021 match against Ohio Christian.
As a team, Midway had 16 service aces, its most since a match against Boyce on Sept. 7, 2021 in which the Eagles had 19.
Slaughter was equally effective at the net, tying Aubry Koester with a match-high 10 kills.
Koester added 14 digs while freshman Emma Lesher, seeing her most extensive playing time of the season, led all players with 14 assists.
It was the second sweep of Alice Lloyd for the Eagles this season and their second-straight win in RSC play, pushing their conference record back above .500 at 6-5.
Hoping to play its way into the conference tournament, Midway will have to do so with four straight road matches to end the season. That run begins with a 6 p.m. matchup at West Virginia Tech on Friday.
