Baseball Picks Up Extra Innings Win Against William Penn

Baseball opened Sunday's action in Salina, Kansas, taking on William Penn. The Statesmen struck first but the Tigers battled back and forced extra innings, winning in the eighth inning, 4-2.

William Penn scored their two runs in the 2nd inning on a double and a Tiger error. Doane cut the lead in half in the 3rd inning on an RBI-double from Logan Amick. The Tigers tied the game in the 4th inning as a throwing error allowed Max Harris to score.

In extra innings, Justin Nevells led off with a walk and Dane Kelsey was hit by a pitch. Following a sacrifice bunt, Nevells scored on a wild pitch to put the Tigers in the lead. Harris would reach on a fielder's choice and with two outs, Carter Roth delivered a single to plate Harris from first base.

Broc Songster started on the mound and went 5.0 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out four. Cade Bridges threw 2.0 innings and allowed one hit and one walk in picking up the win. Nicolas Yard picked up the save with 1.0 inning as he faced three batters and struck out one.

Doane will close out their Salina trip with a rematch against McPherson later in the day on Sunday.
