Cal Maritime cruises to a 104-74 win over Lincoln (CA)
VALLEJO, Calif. – As was the case last Saturday at Simpson, Cal Maritime's opponent in Tuesday's non-conference game at PEAC Main Gym took an early lead within the first minutes of action, and then the Keelhaulers quickly stormed back to take the lead for good as a 6-2 deficit turned into a 7-6 lead for CSUM in a game it eventually won by a 104-74 result over Lincoln (CA).
Men's basketball will now head to Southern California for Thursday's game at La Sierra with a 5-9 overall record and look to build its second lengthy win streak of the season.
With the Keelhaulers winning the inaugural head-to-head meeting, the Oaklanders fall to 1-5 this season.
This is the second time CSUM broke the 100-point threshold this season, falling short of the 135 points it recorded against West Coast Baptist in the 2024-25 season opener, a game that also took place on its home court.
Led by Jamal Frenchwood's 21 points, a total that matches his CSUM career high and doubles as the second-highest individual point total of the season among all Keelhaulers, six players finished in double figures against the Oaklanders.
Lawrence Long set a new season high with 15 points, DeAndre Minor and Lucky Hampton each finished with 12, DJ Henry posted 11 and Alex Maze added another 10.
By recording a career-high 12 rebounds, Hampton notched the first double-double as a Keelhauler.
As a team, CSUM won the battle of the boards by a 51-29 margin — that rebound total is the second-highest of the season — earned nearly four times as many assists (25-10), scored 62 points in the paint and saw its reserves outscore Lincoln's bench players by a 48-8 margin.
The Keelhaulers enjoyed a stellar shooting performance by hitting 40 of 71 total attempts (.556 FG percent); they posted a .588 clip from the floor in the first half and shot .526 after halftime.
Even though CSUM led by 13 at halftime, the game was all but officially over midway through the second half when it scored 17 of the first 25 points to lead by as many as 26 points before settling for a 22-point win.
