Softball splits with Bulldogs

Softball split its second-straight home doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

The (20) Ravens picked up a run-rule, 13-0 win in the first game before losing 5-4 in a close second game against the McPherson College Bulldogs.

Game 1

The Ravens exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to run away with a victory in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.

The Ravens plated 1 run in the first and 2 runs in the third before taking complete control in the fourth inning. When all was said and done, the Ravens rattled off 11 hits and drew 4 walks to earn the 13-0 win in five innings.

Ryan Cooper went 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored. Alena Velilla was also 3-3 with a triple and a double, plus 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Rhiannon Martin had a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in 4 runs.

Lily SinghDhillon pitched all 5 innings for the Ravens, earning her fourth win of the season. She struck out 6 batters and gave up just 3 hits and 1 walk.

Game 2

The Ravens fell behind 5-0 in the second game before staging a comeback attempt that fell 1 run short. Lacey Foster gave up 1 run in the second inning, then gave up another run in the fourth inning plus two more runners. She was relieved by Bailey Selvage, but the first batter Selvage faced was able to square up a 2-strike pitch for what proved to be the pivotal 3-run home run.

A Ravens rally started with a run in the fifth inning as Riley Kennedy's sacrifice fly scored Megan Forsman.

The Ravens scored two more in the sixth when Velilla doubled home Amanda Waymire and Cambell Riordan scored Abby Reynolds with a sac fly.

Waymire's RBI groundout to score Chloe Strickland in the bottom of the seventh inning pulled the Ravens within 1 run, but that's as close as the home side would get as the Bulldogs pulled off the 5-4 win.

The Ravens (11-7) close out their homestand with a doubleheader against Bethany that begins at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 9.
