
Franklin's 32 extends win streak to 12
#2 Georgetown took on Saint Francis (IN) in the finale of The Show on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers, and specificially Jaquias Franklin put on a show and then some. Franklin scored 32 points off the bench as Georgetown rolled to its 12th straight win, 95-72.
Andres Burney and Darien Lewis got the Tigers out to a quick 5-0 lead. Tae Dozier soon followed with two buckets and Georgetown had a 12-1 lead just 2:17 into the contest. Jaquias Franklin came into the game and knocked down a 3 with 13:46 to go to push the lead to 22-9. Moments later, a block by Gavin Stevens led to a Franklin bucket inside for a 26-12 lead at the 11:01 mark. Saint Francis got within 8 multiple times in the half, but Franklin was there each time with a response to push the lead back to double digits. He would go on to score the last 4 points of the half, 15 in total, as the Tigers went to the locker room up 51-30. While Franklin was dealing on offense, the Tigers were clamped down on defense. Saint Francis made just 9 baskets in the half, shooting 28%.
The 2nd half started similar to the first with Andres Burney scoring and converting a free throw. Tae Dozier followed inside and the lead grew to 56-32. Saint Francis made a push with 10 straight before Jaquias Franklin returned and scored 13 seconds later to stop the run. He would score again on the next possession after a Dre Boyd steal. At 12:19, Franklin worked his way inside, scored and got fouled. The 3-point play gave Georgetown a 65-49 lead. Saint Francis could not draw closer as it had no answer for Franklin, who kept scoring as the half went along. Saint Francis never got closer than 14 points after Franklin entered the half with 14:44 to go.
Jaquias Franklin scored 17 in the 2nd half to finish with 32 points on the night. Jabrion Spikes scored all 14 of his points after halftime. The pair led Georgetown to a 59% shooting clip in the half. Dre Boyd turned in another strong overall performance with 11 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 blocks and 3 steals. In total, Georgetown blocked 8 shots, stole 7 passes and held Saint Francis to 37% from the floor, including 4-20 from 3-point range.
The Tigers next head to Louisville to take on Simmons College on Tuesday night. Tip time is set for 7:00pm.
