UHSP Women Make it Three in a Row with Victory at WWU
FULTON, MO. – The Eutectic women's basketball team earned its third American Midwest Conference (AMC) victory in a row on Thursday night with a win at William Woods University (7-12, 5-8 AMC). With the road victory, the UHSP team was able to avenge its overtime loss at home to the WWU Owls back in December and notch the team's fifth win of the season (all from AMC contests).
HIGHLIGHTS:
- The WWU team was up 18-11 after the first quarter, but the Eutectics matched the home team with 14 points apiece in the second to give the Owls a 32-25 lead at halftime.
- Three minutes into the third quarter, the Owls had extended that lead to 18 points (47-29). But, the Eutectic defense would tighten up and force six WWU turnovers in the quarter, converting on each possession to go on an 19-3 scoring run and outscore the Owls 23-19 in the period. Arianna Buduan dropped in nine points and tallied a steal and a block during the UHSP streak, but the Owls still held a 51-48 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
- It was Reece Halley who nabbed six rebounds and went 4-for-5 from the floor in the final period to lead the Eutectics as they surpassed the Owls. A Karsyn Morgan jump shot put the Euts up 63-55 with 3:18 to go, but four made free throws and a layup from the home team put them within striking distance at 63-61 with just over a minute to play. The Eutectics were able to use two timeouts in that final minute with Buduan making a free throw after the first TO, and Montasia McAllister draining two free throws in the final seconds to secure the 66-61 Eutectic victory.
- The Eutectics outrebounded the Owls 43-34, led by Reece Halley's nine.
- Despite similar field goal percentages (41.9% UHSP, 38.7% WWU), the Eutectics dominated from the arc, making 42.9% of their threes (6-for14) while the Owls were 3-for-21.
- Halley narrowly missed another double double with 18 points and nine rebounds in the game. Arianna Buduan finished with 13 points. Alina Bowden put up 12 points (3-for-3 from the arc), eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Montasia McAllister and Karsyn Morgan also reached double digits in scoring with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
- Two starters from WWU scored 15 points apiece: India Atkins and Peyton Dearing.
