
Wildcat Netters Defeat Baker on Senior Night
The Culver-Stockton College women's volleyball team started slowly in its senior night match against Baker University Saturday night at Charles Field House.
After celebrating and honoring the seniors before the match, the Wildcats came out and dropped the first set 26-24 to the Wildcats from Baldwin City, Kan.
However, C-SC rebounded nicely and was able to sweep the next three sets to claim the victory by scores of 24-26, 25-22, 25-17, 25-19 to end a two-match losing streak. The Wildcats are now 6-1 this season in four-set matches.
Zoe Irvin led the Wildcat hitting attack with 10 kills on 23 attempts for a .348 hitting percentage. Abby Godwin and Victoria Pollard contributed eight terminations, while Faith Hopgood had six kills. Pollard did not commit an attack error and finished with a .381 attack percentage on 21 attempts.
C-SC also used a strong serving game to help to the victory. The Wildcats garnered 18 service aces in the match with Kyla Ellis, Pollard and Lauren Bloom recording four aces each. Sam Wright added three service aces.
Ellis was the only Wildcat to reach double figures in dogs, finishing with 21 in the match. Hopgood had five blocks with one solo and four block assists.
C-SC, now 15-12 overall and 7-8 in the Heart, is slated to play at Peru State College this Tuesday, Oct. 29, in Peru, Neb. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
