
Culver-Stockton heats up in second half for 10-point win over Men's Basketball
CANTON. Mo. – Culver-Stockton College used a 70-percent 3-point effort in the second half on Tuesday night to earn a 10-point win over Benedictine Men's Basketball.
The Wildcats hit 7 second-half 3-pointers to erase Benedictine's 44-38 halftime lead to earn an 87-77 win over the Ravens.
Benedictine jumped out quickly from beyond the arc to open play. Of the Ravens first 9 baskets, 6 were 3-pointers that allowed the Ravens to pull ahead of the Wildcats 24-10 by the midpoint of the first half. Culver-Stockton was able to cut the Ravens lead down 1 point before an 8-2 fueled by layups from Haggan Hilgendorf and Preston Reynolds along with a 3-pointer from Brycen LaRue to take a 44-38 lead into the halftime break.
Culver-Stockton opened the second half by outscoring Benedictine 8-2 to tie the game within the first four minutes. The Wildcats held the Ravens to just one field goal over the next seven minutes, which allowed Culver-Stockton to pull ahead by as much as 16 points before earning the 10-point win.
The Wildcats connected on 57.1 percent from the floor in the second half, finishing the same at 52.5 percent. The Ravens finished the game at 47.5 percent from the floor while they were limited to just 2 of 15 from behind the arc in the second half after connecting on 10 first-half 3-pointers.
Four Ravens reached double figures, led by Jack Vander Woude with 15 points. Hilgendorf added 13, followed by LaRue with 12 and Reynolds with 11.
Benedictine hits the holiday break at 5-8 overall and 4-5 in the Heart. They return to action on Jan. 2 back inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium when they host William Penn University.
