No. 1 Baseball Uses Walk-off Homer to Beat No. 6 Reinhardt

ATHENS, Tenn.- The baseball team faced another ranked opponent on Friday. The top-ranked Bulldogs hosted the No. 6 ranked Reinhardt University Eagles in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series. The single game to begin the three-game series saw the Bulldogs win in a walk-off.

After the first inning, the teams were tied 1-1. Daniel Stewart hit a solo home run to put the game the tie in the bottom of the first. TWU took the lead in the second inning, a run scored by Edwin Toribio off a Corbin Shaw RBI single. 

In the third inning, the Bulldogs extended the lead. Stewart recorded another hit, this time a single. Jonathan Bosque took Stewart's spot on base and was only on base for a few moments as Kolton Reynolds emptied the bases with a two-run home run, moving the team's lead to 4-1. The fifth inning saw Reinhardt score three runs though to tie the game at four runs each and a run in the seventh by the opponents made the score 5-4.

The final inning started with saw the tying run get on base when Chris Catalano opened with a double. The go-ahead run, Shaw, got on base with a hit by pitch. Kruise Newman ended the game with his first-pitch shot over the right field wall, giving Tennessee Wesleyan a 7-5 walk-off win.

Newman led the team with three RBIs. Julian Berinti got the pitching win.

TWU (14-3, 6-1 AAC) closes out the series against the Eagles on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
