
Volleyball Falls Short in Rematch at SMC
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Columbia College volleyball team dropped its rematch against Spartanburg Methodist College in three sets 25-15, 25-21, 25-22 on the road Wednesday night.
The Koalas totaled 22 kills in the match, 36 digs, and 5 blocks with 7 aces including back-to-back sets of 9 kills apiece, but it was not enough as SMC hit .185 for the match totaling 32 kills.
Columbia fell to 0-3 in the loss as the Koalas were held to a .011 hitting percentage in the defeat. Sophomore setter Debra Shephard had 17 assists, six digs, two kills and two aces while freshman libero Katie Roberts had eight digs and an ace. Senior DS Jada Gentry also had 9 digs and two aces.
Hitting-wise, the Koalas were led by freshman OH Tamia Fripp's six kills (.111) and one block while senior middle blocker Destiny Brown had 5 kills , 3 blocks and an ace hitting .154. Fellow hitters Gracie Hicklin and Brhia Cummings also combined for 7 kills, six digs and a block.
Columbia will next return home to host Clinton College on Tuesday at 6:30 pm.
