
Men's Basketball Snags First GPAC Win with Late Rally
Men's Basketball took on Mount Marty Wednesday evening in Crete. The Lancers led the majority of the game but it was the Tigers who walked away with a 70-68 victory. Doane closed the game on a 7-0 run to rally for the win.
The Lancers opened the game with a 3-point basket and led 7-2 in the opening two minutes. Doane followed with three 3-point baskets within an 11-5 run to take a 13-12 lead. The Tigers had one additional one-point lead in the half but trailed by five points at the break, 32-27.
Mount Marty pushed their lead to eight points early in the second half only to see Doane cut the deficit down to one point following a Brady Timm free throw and two Glavine McDonald 3-points baskets. The Lancers pushed the lead back to six points only to have Doane counter with another 7-0 run courtesy of Timm and McDonald. Timm hit a 3-point basket and McDonald converted a four-point play to put the Tigers in front with 15:18 to play.
The teams would exchange the lead nine times over the next 13 minutes, leaving the Lancers up by five points with 1:56 to play. Doane was able to hold Mount Marty scoreless as they rallied in the final two minutes. Caleb Hrabik scored on a three-point play to pull within two points. Timm tied the game with 47 seconds to go with a layup. McDonald picked up a steal on the next Lancer possession to give the Tigers a chance to go in front. With the clock winding down, Timm hit a fade away jumper to put Doane in front with less than five seconds to play. Mount Marty had a jumper roll off the rim as Hrabik pulled down the rebound in the closing seconds to seal the win.
McDonald led the team with 24 points, knocking down seven 3-point baskets. Timm added 16 points with Casen Chaney finishing with 11 points. Hrabik led the team with five rebounds while Timm dished out seven assists. Chaney posted five steals on the defensive end as the Tigers had 12 as a team.
Mount Marty had four players in double figures, led by Brandon Garcia with 19 points, ten over his season average. Tash Lunday added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Doane is back at home on Saturday, December 7, when they host Waldorf at 3:45 PM in Crete.
